As Lutherans, we believe God is calling us into the world - together. We are a congregation of people brought together by the Holy Spirit to do God's work and serve the world. There is far more to do than any one church could do alone!
Our local congregation is part of a regional body (the Greater Milwaukee Synod), which is part of a national body (the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), which is a part of an international body (the Lutheran World Federation), which is a member of the World Council of Churches, which is part of God's one holy, catholic, and apostolic church, the body of Christ. Whew!
As a church rooted in Christ, we are called to work together with other churches, ministries, and organizations to serve our neighbors together.
National Partners
Living Hope Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the largest Lutheran denomination in the United States with 2.8 million members in around 8,500 congregations. For more, visit the ELCA's website. As part of the ELCA, we are in full communion partnerships with our siblings in Christ in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Reformed Church in America, United Church of Christ, The Episcopal Church, The Moravian Church, and United Methodist Church denominations.
Being part of the ELCA connects us to mission projects larger than we could possibly manage on our own, such as ELCA World Hunger, Global Refuge (formerly Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service), and 26 Lutheran colleges and universities across the country. Through the work of the wider church, we also sponsor young adult missionaries, advocate for peace and justice for all, care for God’s creation, support migrants, respond to disasters, and much more.
Did you know that Lutherans have one of the largest social services agencies in the country? Lutheran Services in America touches the lives of one in fifty Americans each year.
Some of our mission projects, like quilts and school kits, serve people around the world through Lutheran World Relief.
We also gratefully acknowledge the Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA as the loan provider for our mortgage.
Regional Partners
The ELCA is divided in to 65 synods across the country. Our congregation in Saukville, Wisconsin, partners with 113 other congregations and approximately 59,000 other Lutherans to make up the Greater Milwaukee Synod.
Our congregation also supports two church camping ministries here in Wisconsin, Crossways Camping Ministries in Central Wisconsin, and Lutherdale in Elkhorn.
Local Partners
Here in Ozaukee County, we gratefully support the work of two area food banks, The Food Pantry, Inc. in Port Washington, and Ozaukee Food Alliance in Saukville as they work to provide food to our neighbors. Food donations can be dropped at church.
We also regularly provide meals through Family Promise of Ozaukee County for guests at the Portlight Shelter, and we support the work of a variety of other local organizations like Mr. Bob’s Under the Bridge and the Ozaukee Nonprofit Center Baby Bank.
We also share a pastor with our partner congregation in Port Washington, Christ the King Lutheran Church, with whom we also cooperate on a variety of shared service projects, events, and joint worship services. The Living Hope and Christ the King church councils meet together quarterly to help build our relationships as neighboring partner congregations.
Living Hope is also one of five supporting congregations of Lighthouse Youth Ministry, an ecumenical youth ministry collaboration in the Saukville and Port Washington communities engaging youth in grades 5-12 in group actives, fun events, and service projects to grow in faith, learning, and character.
